Hurricane Preparedness

Hurricane preparedness may be one of the furthest things from our minds, but we should not take it so lightly.  Some folks would say "oh! I've been through Hurricane Allen or Hurricane Gilbert and it was no big deal." I'd have to say that you were one of the fortunate people to not be greatly affected by the storms. I have seen the damage a storm can do to mobile homes, regular homes and to commercial structures. The worst storm the RGV has every seen is Hurricane Beulah on September 20, 1967 and this was just a category three storm. The worst part was not the storm its self but rather the after affects from Beulah. Hurricane Beulah spawned over 90 tornadoes from the valley to just north of Corpus Christi. Beulah also caused major flooding in the RGV like it has never seen before. I have seen aerial photos of Harlingen after the storm and can testify that you could only see the roofs of the homes that were left standing. The Arroyo Colorado that runs through Harlingen was completely overflowed My grandfathers Bar on Rangerville Road   was completely flooded to the peak of the roof. So, I ask are you prepared for another storm like Beulah or even for a category 4 or 5 storm for which the RGV has been fortunate not to experience? If your not sure than please take a few moments and read the articles on this site or those articles that are on other sites for which we have provided links to.
